Music

Music examinations are available across a range of instruments:

  • Keyboard
  • Strings
  • Woodwind
  • Brass
  • Vocal

Syllabuses aim to develop the technical ability and preformance skills of the student from Prep I to Diploma level.  The set works are designed to extend not only the technical ability but to create musicality.  We encourage the inclusion of Australian and contemporary compositions.

Practical Music – there are 2 forms of practical exams:

  • Comprehensive – includes technical work, set pieces and a choice of 2 sections from Aural Skills, Sight Reading and General Knowledge.
  • Performance – includes introduction and performance of set pieces and a folio relating to the works performed.

Theory of Music – syllabus for written exams from Grade 1 to Grade 8 which supports the pracitcal studies.

ACM examinations are recognised by the Queensland Studies Authority as enrichment courses for inclusion on the QCE. Grades 4-7 receive 1 point and Grade 8 and Diplomas receive 2 points.  See the Qld Studies Authority site for more information.
